With the advent of an aging society, how to leverage technology to stimulate seniors’ minds, hands, and overall mobility has become a key driver of innovation in long-term care assistive devices. The Institute for Information Industry's Digital Transformation Research Institute (III DTRI), in collaboration with Leisure Time Physical Activity Solution (LTPA Solution) and Innolux Corporation, has jointly developed the “TAKA Multiplayer Interactive Table”. The device was honored on 10th May with the 2025 Taiwan Assistive Technology Excellence Award – Merit in the LOHAS and Sports Rehabilitation Category, which demonstrates III's ability to lead industrial innovation through the application of technological innovation.

The “TAKA Multiplayer Interactive Table” is a cognitive training tool designed specifically to support dementia care through gamified interactions. Developed with input from III DTRI, the designers of the system take into consideration the spatial movement and activity design for day-care environments. The system combines TAKA’s personalized, quantifiable, and trackable cognitive training programs with an 85-inch 4K multi-touch reinforced glass display from Innolux, supporting simultaneous interaction for up to six users. The table not only enhances cognitive function but also promotes social engagement among older adults. Currently, the system has already been implemented at the Show-Ho Yuan Daycare Center under the Show Chwan Health Care System, receiving high praise from caregivers as well as elderly participants.

Dr. Harriot Lin, Senior Vice President and Director General of III Digital Transformation Research Institute, stated, “Smart technology for elderly care covers a wide range. At DTRI, we start from the real needs of the elderly, developing both hardware and software solutions that drive the entire elderly care industry chain—from upstream smart technologies, to midstream smart living applications, to downstream care services. We will continue to promote the adoption of emerging technologies in the long-term care sector, aiming to deliver precision care and create its value as well as ensure that seniors are able to receive timely and appropriate care interventions.”

The Taiwan Assistive Technology and Long-Term Care Expo is the largest and most professional international exhibition of its kind in the country. Its Taiwan Assistive Technology for Life (ATLife) Excellence Award is jointly evaluated by experts from Taiwan and Japan, recognizing outstanding innovation and contributions in assistive technology. III DTI has long been a pioneer in smart long-term care technology, bridging real-world care needs with innovative tech applications. Through strategic collaboration with partners from display panel, IT service integration, as well as sports and health industries, III has successfully helped co-create award-winning solutions. This achievement not only highlights the effectiveness of cross-industry cooperation, but also showcases III’s role in driving technological empowerment in the long-term care industry. Looking ahead, the institute will continue partnering with industry leaders to develop more user-friendly, precise, and efficient smart eldercare technologies.
