About III

Mission Statement

Introduction

In the early 1970s, the global energy crisis and trade protection policies of industrialized nations posed severe challenges to Taiwan in terms of the trends and the environment at that specific period. The government recognized the urgent needs to transform from traditional industries to technology-intensive ones and enhance the overall competitiveness of the country. These goals became the crucial focuses of government economic development policies at that time.

On May 17, 1979, in the 1631st Executive Yuan meeting, the "Science and Technology Development Program" was approved, leading to the establishment of the "Institute for Information Industry" (III) as a foundation, jointly established by the government and the private sector. On July 24 of the same year, with the vigorous efforts of Mr. Kwoh-ting Li, a senior advisor to the president, III was founded with the mission to "promote the effective application of information technology, enhance the overall competitiveness of the country, create the development environment and conditions of the information industry, and strengthen the competitiveness of the information industry."

Since its establishment, III has been proactively involved in planning, formulating, and promoting various government policies related to the information industry. In addition, it has committed to forward-looking research and development in information and communication technology, as well as the promoting and deepening of information application. III has also played a role in nurturing information technology talents and participating in the national information infrastructure construction. These achievements have been recognized by professionals from various fields. In recent years, responding to rapid environmental changes, III has adjusted its mission and objectives as follows:

Mission

The mission is to support innovation and application of Taiwan’s information and communication technology, and to assist in the development of the digital economy.

Positioning

Positioning itself as a "Digital Transformation Enabler," III aims primarily to collect ideas from different think tanks, cultivate talents, and integrate resources from various information and communication technology research and development units. In addition, III develops solutions and application services that meet industry needs, facilitating the digital transformation of both government and industry.
