A delegation of ten smart city enterprises, led by the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BKIK) and the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MKIK), visited the Institute for Information Industry (III) on 19th March for an in-depth exchange on smart city development trends, technological applications, and industrial collaboration. The visit is a key part of the “2025 Smart City Summit & Expo – Taiwan-Hungary Industry Forum and Business Matching Event” series, aimed at fostering collaboration between Taiwanese and Hungarian enterprises and accelerating innovation and adoption of smart city technologies and solutions.

In his welcome remarks, III Chairman Dr. Johnny Huang stated, “Taiwan is globally recognized as a leader in information technology, semiconductors, and innovation. These achievements are the result of decades of strategic investment, talent development, and strong industry-academia collaboration. At III, we see ourselves as ‘Digital Transformation Enabler’. We understand that future innovation cannot be achieved alone—it requires collaboration and co-creation. Hungary’s rapidly growing technology ecosystem and strong commitment to innovation make it a promising partner for III. Today’s meeting marks the beginning of a productive dialogue and opens new opportunities for collaboration in digital transformation, smart cities, cybersecurity, and AI applications.”

Mr. Gábor Kiss, Chief Advisor to the President of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also noted during the meeting that Hungary is proactively advancing urban digital transformation. As the capital, Budapest has launched several smart city initiatives and is eager to establish long-term partnerships with Taiwanese enterprises to jointly promote sustainable urban development and improve the quality of life for its citizens.

Dr. I-Heng Meng, Director General of Software Technology Institute at III, pointed out, “Software is the core driving force behind all smart city applications, and Taiwan has extensive experience in system integration and application development. Hungary has a strong pool of software talent and unique market needs. Through Taiwan-Hungary cooperation, we can jointly develop smart city solutions that are better tailored to the European market, creating a win-win scenario for both sides.”

During the visit, the Hungarian delegation showed strong interest in Taiwan’s innovative technologies and solutions in areas such as smart traffic management, information security, and artificial intelligence. III also showcased several of its key R&D achievements, including an urban data analytics platform and smart traffic optimization solutions, which were highly praised by the Hungarian delegates.

III assembled a distinguished group of senior leaders for the occasion, including Chairman Dr. Johnny Huang, President Chun-I Fan, DTRI Deputy Director General Long Chen, Division Chief Chih-Hsiang Wang, STI Director General I-Heng Meng, Division Chief Hui-Tzu Huang, AIII Division Chief Song-Kong Chong, and CTI Deputy Director General Mars Kao, Section Chief Hsiao-Wen Lin. Through the idea exchange with the Hungarian delegation, III not only aimed to explore development trends in the smart city domain, but also sought to help Taiwanese industries seize early market opportunities. The event served as a platform to foster deeper Taiwan-Hungary collaboration and joint development in the smart city sector.
